Please note that the teachings and videos featured on this website are based on the Woodland Cree Peoples’ ways of knowing and being in the Northwestern region of Alberta. The knowledge, customs, protocols, and practices shared here have been gained through a lifetime of teachings from family and Elders, deeply rooted in Cree/Métis spiritual and subsistence lifestyle.

APLC acknowledges that we all have different teachings and different protocols and practices in our own communities, and encourages users to consult with their local Elders regarding local practices and customs. Tipi Teachings

This video series focuses on building a tipi and the teachings that accompany the poles. The series includes a video for each of the poles and a video that provides an overview of the entire process.

The Tipi Teachings Learning Guide and the Tipi Teachings PDF resource support these teachings and other points of learning that accompany the construction of a tipi. The Learning Guide provides examples of connections to curriculum for Kindergarten to Grade 12 as well as how the teachings connect deeply with Physical Education and Wellness, as well as Health and Career and Life Management (CALM).
